CMT Reveals Next Women of Country Class of 2020

CMT has announced the 2020 Class of its Next Women of Country franchise at today’s 7th annual event at the CMA Theater at the Country Music Hall of Fame.

The 11 artists joining the prestigious Next Women roster are: Abbey Cone, Avenue Beat, Caylee Hammack, Gabby Barrett, Hailey Whitters, Kylie Morgan, Madison Kozak, Renee Blair, Sykamore, Tiera and Walker County. Event co-hosts Leslie Fram, SVP, Music Strategy & Talent, CMT, and country icon Martina McBride made the announcement.

At the event, each newly-named act performed one song onstage in an acoustic, writer’s round format. This 2020 Class marks a total of 75 female acts that have been named as part of the program since its inception in 2013.

Songs & Daughters artist Madison Kozak is returning to her childhood “Household” with today’s nostalgic release. The 22-year-old budding star introduced the sentimental song during her recent Grand Ole Opry debut, with her family traveling from Canada to be by her side.

Raised with seven siblings in Lindsay, Ontario, Kozak dug deep to put-to-pen all the bittersweet memories of her full-house upbringing alongside co-writers Thomas "Tawgs" Salter, Gordie Sampson, and Simon Wilcox. She had relocated to Nashville at just 14 years old to pursue music and knows firsthand, “But you can't pack a life in a Samsonite.

Continuing to elevate her live show appearances having recently played an all-genre acoustic round during Live In The Vineyard in Napa Valley, CA, with high-profile artists like Avril Lavigne and Maren Morris, Kozak was just announced as support for Chase Rice's THE PINT OF ANYTHING TOUR, spanning the U.K. and Europe in January 2020. Marking her first international trek, she'll crisscross the U.K. with shows in London, Glasgow, Belfast, Manchester, plus Germany and the Netherlands.

Songs & Daughters artist Madison Kozak topped her bucket list moment debuting at the Grand Ole Opry with a standing ovation on Saturday (10/26) night. It was a full-circle experience for the 22-year-old budding star, after first visiting the iconic venue 12 years ago with her father – the inspiration behind her breakout song, “First Last Name.”

“i was a little kid in pink cowboy boots the first time dad and i went to see the Opry,” Kozak shared on Instagram. “we sat about 10 rows back and there were stars in my eyes as i sang along to Loretta Lynn sing ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter’, a song she wrote about her first last name. talk about a full circle.”

Welcomed into the legendary circle by Grand Ole Opry and Country Music Hall of Famer Bill Anderson, the songstress had the packed house on their feet for “First Last Name.” Penned by Kozak with Claire Douglas and James Slater, the career-launching tune secured her a record deal as the flagship artist for Songs & Daughters – the new female-focused label helmed by Nicolle Galyon in partnership with Big Loud. The recent Belmont University graduate also introduced a nostalgic, unreleased track titled “Household,” with her parents alongside family and friends from her birthplace of Lindsay, Ontario, showing hometown pride in attendance.

Recently releasing music videos for “Phases” and “Little Bit of You,” as featured on her independent Heartbreak School – EP, Kozak is full-speed ahead with a high-profile appearance at Live In The Vineyard in Napa Valley, CA, on Friday (11/1). This fall, she’ll hit the road for the first time supporting MORGAN EVANS (WORLD TOUR), AARON WATSON (RED BANDANA TOUR – FALL 2019), and MASON RAMSEY (HOW’S UR GIRL & HOW’S UR FAMILY PT. 2).
